Diablo is a franchise that hasn’t seen much in the way of product releases, but has grown to such a large status that it transcends its cult following. With two games so far in the Diablo franchise so far, Blizzard is now gearing up for the third. It brings the games from their isometric 2D gameplay into the world of 3D gameplay, though it retains the camera angle. It features fully updated characters, the third part in the saga’s story and a host of new changes, features and even characters. There is one particularly awaited character in this game. With the Diablo 3 Demon Hunter 2010 Blizzcon updates, we’ve finally learnt more about this mysterious new person.

The New Character

The announced characters up to the Blizzcon 2010 was the barbarian, witch doctor, wizard and monk. With this ranger-like class, it’s obvious that the developers are attempting to round out some of provided gameplay. She is somewhat of a rogue in that she’s capable of employing traps and gadgets, yet she’s more than capable of utilizing the enemy’s dark magic against them. In terms of exposition, she doesn’t have a cultural identity that explains why they fighting through the story.

How She Appears

The appearance of the demon hunter has varied intensely. She started out looking pretty much like the monsters that the player will kill throughout the game. Then she transitioned to a half-monster status, but this still didn’t fit the role of the character. With her being fundamentally a ranger class, it made sense to have her fighting at long ranges. So instead, she ended up explicitly humanly, though her armor retains some of that demonic side as do her glowing red eyes.

Gameplay Style

As she is essentially a ranger, there are some basic gameplay elements that are included. For example, the traditional point and shoot gameplay of any ranger character is there, but so is a host of tactical options. She can employ grenades and traps, as well as Vault (the Blink spell with a dark magic twist) and a multi-shot. This promotes clever gameplay, rather than blunt violence, like the barbarian.
